In the UK a pocket knife must conform to certain parameters to be legally carried on your person from day to day. To adhere to these regulations you knife must not exceed 3 inches in blade length and it must not have a locking mechanism.

 It is of course, completely legal to own knives outside of these parameters and to use it in your work, at home, when camping, fishing etc , but you can't carry one on your person without good cause.
