Steel

Classic English pattern chef knife from J Adams of Sheffield, the home of the British steel industry. Made to a traditional British pattern with a simple construction and a nice edge out of the box. Available as 4”, 6”, 8” or 10”

They aren’t the fanciest knives around but they are a good, unassuming workhorse for the kitchen, they hold a nice edge, they’re comfortable to use and for the price these knives are excellent value for money.

We’ve this 4 knife range available in both carbon and stainless steel, please select your preference when adding to cart.

Personally we prefer our knives to be made from Carbon steel, as it sharpens up better, holds it’s edge for longer and changes appearance with age, but it can rust if not dried straight after washing, so if you think it’s likely to get left in the sink or on the draining board, we recommend the stainless.

J. Adams Ltd (Sheffield Knives) are a family business who have been making good quality knives for six generations, known for their traditional pattern English kitchen knives they also produce a wider range of bladed tools, we’re particularly taken by their range of folding knives.

A note on carbon steel Like many others we at Community Cutlery favour carbon over stainless steel for its ability to take a keener edge and hold it for longer, for this privilege we need to care for our carbon products with a little more consideration, particularly when it comes to washing. Once you’ve finished with your knife we recommend giving it a quick wash and a thorough dry, as if left wet it will start to rust, surprisingly quickly. If this does happen then take a dry scourer and lightly give it a rub, another rinse and a good dry, it should come off with relative ease. With use you will also notice a light change in the colour of the blade, this patina is natural, beautiful and to be cherished, it’s like your knife developing its own fingerprint!

Knives are only available to persons over 18 years of age. Due to the nature of our business ALL customers will be asked to prove their age at checkout.

We ship Tuesday to Saturday using Royal Mail Tracked 24.

All knives ship via an age verified service in accordance with The Offensive Weapons Act 2019, which will mean the postie will need you to be in to receive the delivery & to check your ID if you look under 25.

The law also requires us to carry out a soft age check of the purchaser after checkout, this is done by an automated system that usually doesn't require your input, although we will need to contact you for proof of age if you fail, which can sometimes happen if you use a work address.

We like to think

of Community Cutlery as a home for enthusiasts, for people who love the ritual of food preparation and who have realised the charm in doing it with quality tools, with items that are as pleasing on the eye as they are practical in the hand.
