A brilliantly simple little kit from Japan that gives you everything you need to make your own wooden butter knife – well, almost everything; you’ll need to bring the knife.

Starting with a roughly shaped wooden blank, you carve, sand and finish it completely by hand. You can follow the existing shape, change the handle, make the tip wider for spreading jam, or just see where you end up. There’s no real right or wrong way to do it, and that’s a big part of the appeal.

Three grades of sandpaper are included for smoothing and refining your finished shape, along with beeswax and cloths for the final finish.
