The Petty is a small, versatile Japanese kitchen knife, perfect for jobs where a full-sized chef’s knife feels a little too large. Great for fruit and vegetables, trimming and more detailed prep work, a 150mm Petty is a really useful addition to any kitchen.
Knife Shape & Finish
This 150mm Petty comes from Hatsukokoro’s Ryuhyo range and features a striking Kurozome Damascus finish. The dark finish contrasts with the Damascus pattern across the blade, while the stabilised wood handle is finished with a contrasting white spacer.
Steel & Construction
The Ryuhyo uses SG2, a high-performance stainless powder steel known for taking a very fine edge and offering excellent edge retention. The SG2 core is clad in stainless Damascus, combining a practical stainless construction with the distinctive layered finish.
Steel Care
SG2 is stainless and relatively low maintenance compared with traditional carbon steels. We still recommend hand washing the knife after use and drying it thoroughly before storing. Never put a Japanese kitchen knife in the dishwasher and avoid cutting frozen foods, bones or other very hard ingredients.
